We just got back from Jamaica and I miss it already! It had been about 5 years since I had gone and so when we got the opportunity to go this year, I was a bit more than ecstatic- I couldn’t wait to show it off to Faisal:) To me, Jamaica is the land of All Right, the home of Bob Marley, It is beautiful beaches, happy people, reggae music and jerk chicken! What I love most about Jamaica is the people and their approach to life. If you’ve been to Jamaica you know what I am talking about because you’ve definitely heard some of the popular sayings “No Problem Mon” and “Irie” which is a friendly greeting meaning feeling all right or feeling great. This attitude that people carry there is very genuine and super contagious and so its all around good vibes!
I guess I want to start this blog off by talking about how safe it is to visit Jamaica. Some people have asked us if we felt safe there because they saw some news on TV and second guessing booking a vacation to Jamaica. The truth is we felt really safe, most of the time we stayed at our resort but when we did go out we didn’t feel anything out of the ordinary. I personally think you have to exercise caution whenever you got to any country so I would say just don’t go out wandering along at night and you should be fine.
We booked our trip through Air Canada Vacations and stayed at the Sandals Montego Bay. It was the closest to the airport and since we were only going for 5 days it made the most sense to us not to mention we have always wanted to break our Sandals lol . Sandals Montego Bay is a lively adults only resort, it’s perfect for couples and honeymooners. Also if you stay at one of the Sandals properties, you get access to the neighboring Sandals property so there is never a dull moment. We did find Sandals Montego Bay to be a bit more intimate compared to some of the other all-inclusive but this is probably because it’s a flag ship hotel – meaning the first one ever! Alsoooooooo Oh my god did you know that Sandals now has over water villas, so you don’t need to go all the way to Maldives or Bora Bora to experience ultimate luxury. There are 2 properties in Jamaica that has them, the Sandals Royal Caribbean and Sandals South Coast, as well as the Sandals Grande St. Lucian Spa & Beach Resort in St Lucia.
Ok lets talk about the food next, I have been to a few of the tropical islands such Costa Rica, Mexico, Punta Cana to name a few but the food is nowhere near as good as it is in Jamaica. Jamaicans really know how to spice it up. The Jerk Chicken is obviously a favorite, but everything from the patties to pastries were on point. I can honestly say I did not have one bad meal at the Sandals Montego Bay. The property has about 6 restaurants, our favorite was Oleadner We had the crab cake, lamb chops and lobster . If you ever go there, you have to try it!! They also had a Thai restaurant at the Sandals Royal Caribbean which was a few minute shuttle drive over and being back from Thailand we were craving Thai so we were over the moon about this and loved our meal there too.
